Election Night!

Since we figured that Jeremy and I would be glued to the TV last night anyway, we decided to use the election night coverage as an educational experience for the 3 older boys and let them stay up and watch. They had already accompanied us to the polls earlier in the day and so experienced that part of the process, and were eager to learn more. I printed blank electoral college maps for the boys to color in as the results came in, and Jeremy was assigned the job of explaining how it all worked to the boys...gotta put that political science degree to work, after all! The boys made up some snacks, I made cookies, and we settled in to watch.

Jonathan with a tray of cheese and cracker sandwiches he made...

Jonathan with his map and crayons. We started out optimistic...as evidenced by his tiny stub of a blue crayon, lol!

Enjoying snacks and a lesson on American politics with Daddy...

Note the remote in the lower left corner...Jeremy, in true guy fashion, had to channel-surf through all the news stations every time one went to commercial or local news...

Jeremy, Josiah, and Joshua...

It's hard to tell, but there's a big grin behind that paci!

Brothers having fun together...as you can see the maps are almost colored in by this point.
While we were disappointed in the results of the election, we did enjoy some nice family time and the boys got their first lesson in the political process. Joshua even figured out that the first presidential election he will be able to vote in will be in 2020!

What an awesome way to teach the boys about the election process. We were disappointed as well, but expected it. So, see more taxes, higher gas prices and a long next 4 years.

Very cool! I do the same thing Jeremy does with the remote during commercials. I hate 'em!! At least we have a DVR now and can skip commercials during tv shows.

We're ready for a looong 4 years over here, too. At least we got some good news on our Prop 8!! Yay!!

What a great idea, Jenny. It was good to have Jeremy with us this weekend at the BASIC Conference. Hopefully next time he comes our way, you and the boys can join him. Maybe we could take you to one of the museums! :)

You guys are great. My kids watched scooby-doo while I watched the election results. :)
But we did have a nice talk the following day about being respectful of people we disagree with. Better than nothing.
